Deployed Airman killed in vehicle accident Published Sept. 18, 2007 By 36th Wing Public Affairs ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- An Airman deployed from the 36th Contracting Squadron was killed Sept. 9 when a vehicle she was riding in crashed five kilometers south of Pristina Air Base, Kosovo. Airman 1st Class Portica Beckton was one of four servicemembers riding in the vehicle when it slid from the road and overturned. The three other servicemembers were treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to officials at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, where the victims were transported. "Team Andersen is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Airman 1st Class Beckton. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time," said Brig. Gen. Doug Owens, 36th Wing commander. "We ask that you keep Airman Beckton, her family and the men and women serving in the military throughout the world in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to preserve our freedom." Airman Beckton, a communications client support administrator, was deployed to Kosovo from Andersen as part of an Air and Space Expeditionary Force rotation. The accident is under investigation.
