Halloween is just around the corner, and the 36th Security Forces Squadron and other Team Andersen volunteers are preparing for this year's trick-or-treaters with the second annual Operation Pumpkin Patrol.

Trick-or-treating hours in base housing are from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.   Readily identifiable Pumpkin Patrolmen will be hitting the streets during these hours to provide safety for children and families who are out trick-or-treating, said Senior Airman Ronica Grant, 36th SFS.

"There have been no previous incidents here on Andersen on Halloween, and we're going to keep it that way by patrolling base housing," said Staff Sgt. Todd Gammon, a member of the 36th SFS and point of contact for Operation Pumpkin Patrol.

Parents are encouraged to make sure their children cross streets carefully and carry flashlights.  If anything seems out of the ordinary, contact a patrolman to handle the situation.  Also, motorists are reminded to reduce their speed in base housing and watch closely for excited children running across the streets.

"There will be more than 40 Pumpkin Patrolmen available this Halloween to ensure the base community isn't hindered by any problems," said Sergeant Gammon.

Anyone who would like to volunteer must contact Sergeant Gammon at todd.gammon@andersen.af.mil, Airman Grant at 366-4545, or Staff Sgt. Tom Henzl, 36th SFS, at 366-4276 by Oct. 29.  Volunteers must wear BDU's, a reflective belt and have a working flashlight.
