Next PACAF commander confirmed

On Nov.16 the Senate Armed Services Committee confirmed Lieutenant General Carrol H. "Howie" Chandler's promotion to general and appointment as the next commander of Pacific Air Forces with change of command scheduled for Nov. 30 at Hickam Air Force Base.

Lt. Gen. Chandler is currently the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Requirements, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., responsible to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff for formulating policy supporting air, space, nuclear, counter-proliferation, homeland security, weather and cyber operations.

General Paul V. Hester is scheduled to retire on Nov. 30 at 2:45 p.m. and relinquish command of PACAF to Lt. Gen. Chandler at 4 p.m. the same day.

As the commander of PACAF, Lt. Gen. Chandler will be responsible for Air Force activities covering more than half the globe in a command that supports 55,500 Air Force personnel serving principally in Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Japan and South Korea.
