Children and parents attended Operation Kids Understanding Deployment Operations at the Hot Spot June 2.

The event was organized to educate children of servicemembers about deployments and the processes servicemembers participate in leading up to deployments.

"The event helps children understand what their parents go through and why mom or dad might not be home for a while," said Joseph Catahay, Chief of the Airmen Family and Readiness Center at Andersen. "When the children see what their parents go through, they better understand the stressors of the military lifestyle."

The event was a great success, educating on a variety of events from out-processing and in-processing to daily questions like where their parents work and why.

"Overall it's been a great experience," said Maj. Jamal Williams, 36th Force Support Squadron operations officer. "We've gotten a lot of feedback from the parents and kids who have come out to participate. We plan on making the event even bigger and better next year."
