The Air Force announced the recipients of the 2016 Air Force Fighter Annual Awards in May 2017. The award is designed to recognize fighter pilots and weapon systems officers’ commitment, performance, leadership and aviation skills that were instrumental to mission success of their units, the U.S. Air Force and the Defense Department.

Default Air Force Logo Nuclear Inspection grade restricted in evaluation, decoration and award comments
Recent changes to security classification guidance is driving the restriction of certain comments on evaluations, decorations and award nominations. The Air Force Inspection System Security Classification Guide used by the inspector general, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Instruction 3263.05C, Nuclear Weapons Technical Inspections, has increased the classification of certain inspection grades frequently highlighted in select personnel documents.

Default Air Force Logo AFROTC accepting instructor, detachment commander applications for summer 2018
Air Force officials have announced 81 projected Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps instructor vacancies and 13 detachment commander positions available for summer 2018. Officers eligible for instructor slots include first lieutenants, captains or majors. Active-duty rated officers, line of the Air Force lieutenant colonels and majors selected for lieutenant colonel may apply for detachment commander positions.

The Defense Department officially launched the Blended Retirement System comparison calculator, providing BRS opt-in eligible service members their first opportunity for an individualized comparison of retirement systems. The comprehensive tool, in combination with the mandatory BRS Opt-In Course, will assist the nearly 1.7 million opt-in eligible service members and their families make an informed decision on whether or not to elect the new retirement system. The BRS goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

The Air Force has added two international affairs specialties to the Voluntary Limited Period of Active Duty program, which allows Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard Airmen from select Air Force officer and enlisted specialties to serve on active duty in vacant active-duty positions for three years and one day, if approved for release from their reserve or ANG component.
