A construction project is currently underway to slant the parking spaces in front of the Exchange at Andersen Air Force Base and change the flow of traffic in the parking lot.

Until the project is completed on Aug. 2, contractors are working on the parking rows in pairs so parking access to the Main Exchange is still available through the duration of the project.

The parking lot has been broken up until eight different areas. The schedule for parking area closure is;

Areas 1 and 2: Already completed

Areas 3 and 4: Already completed

Areas 5 and 6: July 29 - 31

Areas 7 and 8: July 31- Aug 2

Once the project is completed, parking spaces will be slanted and the majority of the traffic flow will be one way.

"It's very important for all to understand that traffic patterns will change as we complete each row. " said Lt. Col. Christopher Carter, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. "Most of the flow will be one way when traveling up and down the lanes."

Restricting each row to one driving direction and angling the existing spaces to 60 degrees will reduce the risk of mishaps, especially when drivers are backing out, said Senior Airman Devin Kimsey, 36th Contracting Squadron contract specialist.

"Re-striping the Exchange parking lot benefits practically everyone on base," Kimsey said. "Not only were the old markings fading from sun exposure, but the 90-degree stall configuration may have led to vehicle mishaps"
