Active-duty members and Department of Defense civilians moving to or from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, are authorized to use the loan locker for up to 30 days or until their household goods arrive.

The loan locker is an Airman and Family Readiness Center program where active duty and civilian members with orders can borrow various household items while moving to or from a base.

"The locker is part of the relocation assistance program," said Terry Duenas, 36th Force Support Squadron A&FRC, relocation manager. "Once the member moves into their residence, they can stop by and pick up the necessities they need."

The loan locker has everything ranging from kitchen and cleaning appliances to TVs and DVD players as well as bedding.

In order for a member to qualify for using the loan locker, members must have a copy of their orders. Spouses can also access the locker as long as they have an ID card and orders for the military member.

Not only is the loan locker convenient for families, it is also designed to prevent Airmen from spending money on appliances they may already have.

"This is a great program for Airmen that are relocating," said Airman 1st Class Kaillie Helart, 36th Force Support Squadron, date of estimated return from overseas manager. "There are
so many things to choose from, and it saves Airmen a lot of time and money."

Each item in the loan locker is thoroughly inspected before being issued to the customer. When checking out items from the locker, each member signs for the items they are borrowing. If an appliance is damaged while in the member's care, they will be held
responsible for replacing or paying for the item.

"If an item is checked out and the member later notices that something is missing or damaged, they are required to inform the loan locker staff or bring it in for a replacement," Duenas said. "We don't want anyone to be held liable for something they didn't do."

Due to the busy schedule of inspecting and issuing items, the A&FRC is always looking for interested volunteers to help manage and maintain the loan locker.

"We welcome volunteers anytime," Duenas said. "If a spouse is looking for something to do, we can get them trained and they can start volunteering."
