ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- Andersen Air Force Base's Palm Tree Golf Course re-opened the golf pro shop in their new location at the Sunrise Conference Center Jan. 31, 2015.

Several Team Andersen units pitched in to make new improvements to the Sunrise Conference Center in order to enhance the overall golf experience for Team Andersen.

"We spent the last five days working with civil engineers and the electric shop, and redid the whole thing from scratch," said Tech. Sgt. Thomas Harris, 36th Force Support Squadron. "We put in a new putting green and TVs and revamped the whole thing."

One advantage to moving the golf pro shop to the Sunrise Conference Center is that it allows for closer proximity to the golf course.

"The previous pro shop was about a mile and a half from the golf course," Harris said. "We've moved it here, renumbered the holes and have an events coordinator that will allow us to start getting programs, families and kids more involved."

Leadership reflected on the importance of the only Department of Defense golf course on Guam.

"It is important to provide a quality of life for our Airmen and their families, which is why we are trying to upgrade some of the facilities we have here on base," said Maj. Angel Betancourt, 36th FSS commander. "We have a great team working very hard to maintain the condition of the golf course, move the club house pro shop, and improve the overall golf experience. We will be offering golf programs for single airmen living in the dorms and clinics for family members and kids."

The golf pro shop, offering golf equipment, apparel and snacks, is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, to include holidays.

Meridian Café, previously known as Mulligan's, is also projected to open mid-February in the Sunrise Conference Center for lunch. Hours of operation will expand as new staff come on board.
