CDC, School-Age Care fees to be reduced

  • Published

The much anticipated new fee structure has finally been approved and Andersen families will benefit as child care becomes even more affordable.

The National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral has released their report "Parents and the High Price of Child Care: 2007 Update" regarding child care fees across the nation. Their data shows that child care fees in licensed centers can reach up to $10,920 a year for a 4-year-old child and up to $14,647 a year for infants.

Historically, Andersen's fees have been significantly lower than that, but the great news is fees for the coming year will be even lower.

As of Dec. 10, day care fees at the Child Development Center and School Age Program will be reduced as follows:

Category      Income Range            Current Fees        New Fees

I                      $0 to 28,000                $66.15                   $62
II                     $28,001 to 34,000      $83.80                   $76
III                    $34,001 to 44,000      $104.75                 $89
IV                    $44,001 to 55,000      $117.95                 $102
V                     $55,001 to 70,000      $135.20                 $116
VI                    $70,000+                      $150.80                 $129

Rates for part day care will be adjusted accordingly.

Parents will need to re-register their children and supply their latest LES and pay statements so that their new category can be determined. Specific guidance on registration dates and fee category determination is available at the CDC.

As part of the new fee structure, it will be necessary for parents to identify the specific hours of care they require. This will allow care staff to be scheduled more efficiently and enable them to keep the cost of care as low as possible.
