Summer break is almost here. While we enjoy the wonderful island days of summer, "Trauma Season" is on for emergency rooms as the Air Force recognizes the "101 Critical Days of Summer," which is Memorial Day to Labor Day. Team Andersen is not immune to the 101 CDoS because we live on a tropical island. Our children will be out of school and a majority of personnel will enjoy leave during this time. We must stay focused on safety, on and off the job.

During 101 CDoS last year, Team Andersen remained focused. We experienced a 100 percent reduction in miscellaneous mishaps and a 60% decrease in privately owned motor vehicle mishaps as compared to the previous year. We also decreased our sports, recreation and on-duty first aid injuries. Our motorcycle riders maintained zero mishaps last year and remain focused on street riding skills. Our success can be directly related to you being involved in risk management.

Personnel utilized A.C.T. They accessed the situation, considered other alternatives and took the appropriate action for their own safety. Supervisors' ensured their troops maintained proper pre-departure briefings for state-side leave. Leaders took the lead with Safety allowing others to learn from experiences. We need this team effort to bleed over to on-duty missions.

Last year we experienced $86,000 in loses that could have been prevented. Inadequate technical order guidance and lesson plan coverage can be changed by you. These changes were known, but were never submitted until post-mishap. You can make a difference this time. You have already made a difference by leading Team Andersen into the 101 CDoS.

The 36th Wing experienced zero reportable mishaps for ground, flight and weapons safety in the month of April. We have continued this trend into May. With your help, we can successfully ambulate through the 101 CDoS mishap free and meet the Secretary of Defense's goal of "zero" mishaps.
