Andersen holds annual Memorial Day celebration

More than 500 Team Andersen residents came out to Arc Light Park last Friday for the 36th Services Squadron's annual "Memorial Day Celebration."

Services squadron personnel and volunteers set about its task of setting up tables, chairs, canopies and other items to in preparation for the afternoon crowd. The Memorial Day Celebration was held from 3 to 6 p.m. and included fun and activities for everyone.

Children enjoyed the popular water slide, bouncy castle, carabao rides, paintball and a variety of games and activities in the special children's area, while the adults displayed their skill in the 3-legged race and Frisbee toss.

The afternoon also featured a "Pie in the Face" contest with many of Andersen's leaders taking one for the team in the form of a pie to the face, all for a good cause, to raise money for the 1Lt. Ellen Taitano Scholarship Fund. The contest raised $850.00 for this worthy cause.

For those who were hungry, Gecko Lanes Bowling Center staff members offered their famous Fiesta Plates, while the Top of the Rock staff manned the beverage concession.

The reggae band, "Table for 5" and DJ Ed kept the crowd entertained throughout the afternoon, and there were plenty of prize drawings during the event for digital cameras, portable DVD players, video game systems and much more. The Grand Prize drawings for roundtrip airfare to anywhere in Asia Northwest Airlines flies were won by Master Sgt. Dave Laun of the 36th Logistics Readiness Squadron and Karen Mata, wife of Tech. Sgt. Marco Mata of the 734th Air Mobility Squadron.
