An Airman from the 36th Civil Engineer Squadron on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, was recently recognized as one of 12 outstanding Airmen in the Air Force.

Staff Sgt. Joshua Hanna, 36th CES explosive ordnance disposal journeyman, received the news he had been selected July 2 and received a call from Gen. Herbert Carlisle, Pacific Air Forces commander.

An Air Force selection board at the Air Force Personnel Center considered 35 nominees who represented major commands, direct reporting units, field operating agencies and Headquarters Air Force. The board selected Hanna based on his superior leadership, job performance and personal achievements.

"From deployment experiences and other great TDYs down to a lot of great volunteer opportunities, I had a lot of doors open for me," Hanna said. "I also had a lot of support from everyone in my flight and my squadron. Without their skills and support, there is no way I would have made it this far. To look at this award and say it is something that 'I' achieved would be a lie. It couldn't have happened without them."

The recipients are authorized to wear the Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon with the bronze service star device. They are also authorized to wear the Outstanding Airman of the Year Badge for one year from the date of formal presentation.

The Air Force Association will honor Hanna and the other 11 Airmen in September during its Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition in Washington, D.C.
