The Andersen AFB Visitor Control Center located at the main gate has begun pre-registering eligible veterans and caregivers for base access privileges as part of the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018.

Section 621 of the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act allows Purple Heart recipients, veterans with service-connected disabilities, former Prisoners of War (POW), and those designated as the primary family caregivers of eligible veterans access to base Commissaries, Military Service Exchanges, and certain Category C Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) facilities (Palm Tree Golf Course, Meridian  CafĂ©, The Cove, Gecko Lanes, Gecko Grill, and Bamboo Willies, and High Tides) beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

In order for eligible persons to receive base access they must have a Veterans Health Information Card (VHIC) or be issued a letter to specify eligible caregivers, both of which are an approved credential for requesting installation access.

The VHIC must display the eligibility status (i.e., PURPLE HEART, FORMER POW, SERVICE CONNECTED). Visit https://www.va.gov/healthbenefits/vhic for information regarding eligibility for the VHIC and the application process.

Caregivers of seriously injured veterans must first be enrolled as an approved caregiver with the Veteran Administration's (VA) Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers and receive a VA-issued letter indicating their approved enrollment.  The VA-issued letter, along with the proper credentials must be submitted when requesting access to the base.
